From the Ground up!

I was inspired to write after watching this documentary about  PurePlant NationAmerica and the world is awakening en masses to the idea that the food we eat is not always safe, that we can no longer simply trust the federal agencies overseeing how our food is handled.

As a public health educator, I teach people about prevention of chronic health diseases and as a health coach I meet my clients where they are to help them in making lifelong health changes.

The time is now to take charge of your health and know where your food is coming from. As stated in the documentary, revolutions start “from the ground up” and so taking back our food supply while protecting our environment is of upmost importance. When we care about what we put in our bodies, we care about what we surround our lives with, and we care about how we show up in this world.

Are you truly what you eat?

Self-growth through energy work

Today I took a time out for myself and attend an all day soul relationship retreat with a group of strangers who are now like family. Most of the day we listened about how important it is to be aware of the blocks we are using so we won’t allow love to come in. From intimate relationships to professional ones, we have to be aware of our own patterns so we can stop attracting similar types of people.

I attended the retreat so I could be open to attract my soulmate. I am aware that when I am in intimate relationships I sometimes do not voice what I want or how I feel. I swallow the discomfort in order to avoid confrontations and then I become bitter.

Today I realized my underlying fear is because at times I feel as though I am not worthy and hold on to what is not serving me so I won’t be alone. I set the intention to release that negative thought and embrace love, compassion, and the knowing that I will receive the right partner when the time is right.

After our discussion of getting to the root of our blocks we were led into breath work, an intensive and emotional releasing therapy. While focusing on our breath in a specific way, pent up emotions, fears, and thoughts rose up and released themselves. Afterwards we were to lie on our left sides and regroup.

We regrouped in a small circle to share briefly our experiences, hear what we may expect for the next few days and giving thanks for the space and the teacher who led it. We ended by connecting one last time by holding hands and feeling the energy flow through the group.

Driving home I gave thanks to the universe for placing such an amazing experience into my life at this moment as I was currently struggling with my life’s direction. Once home I spoke to my mother’s older sister who exclaimed how proud she is of me and the work I do. She mentioned how I bring joy to my family and I’m so helpful. It was another confirmation of how powerful and full of love I am and worthy of love too. A great ending to a wonderful day.

As a healer and teacher it is essential that I also become a patient and a student as I continue to heal my wounds while also releasing limiting beliefs that cause me to sabotage my personal and professional life.

Please share if you have participated in a recent retreat, group workshop, or class focused on self-growth and empowerment.

Power of intention

Two years ago I decided I wanted to create my own business so I could serve others by supporting them along their healing journey and be flexible in case my immediate family needed my presence in Miami. Last year I made that happen by establishing my LLC in Florida and beginning my path as an entrepreneur.

Two months ago I jumped into my business full-time and work about 30-60 hours a week. My work is my passion and so it really is echoed in all I do. I offer recommendations and healing energy to people I come across throughout the day and give myself self-healing as I need it.

Each month I set goals I want to focus on and then break them down into bite sized pieces, just as I do with my clients. Last month my goal was to find a place to practice energy healing instead of relying on visiting people in their homes, as that was not coming to fruition. Plus, moving around and carrying my healing tools was not providing me a consistent work plan with my clients.

I have been volunteering as a facilitator of a reiki/meditation group at a local trauma center for the past few weeks. Recently they announced that they were relocating to another location in south Miami. At first I sighed at the idea of such a lengthy drive just to facilitate a circle I was not being paid for until I remember an offer I was given last month.

A healer I had met at a networking event offered me her space to use when she was not  working and I remembered that Wednesdays were one of her days off which is when I do the circles. So, I contacted her and asked if the offer still stands and she said yes.

Therefore, my goal of finding a place to practice, the intention I set last month has been resolved. Starting next month I will be practicing energy healing in a beautiful and serene healing space which I am so grateful for and excited as it is further proof from the universe that I am on the right path.

Discussion: What has been a goal you had stated that has recently come true.

Hot yoga heats me up

I have been hearing about hot yoga for numerous years from various sources. While living in Las Cruces, New Mexico I attended a few sessions of hot yoga which I liked because it was during the cold months and it was a break from the cold. However, hot yoga in Miami was not appealing to me.

Today, I decided to face the fear or discomfort as I attended a 7am class. There were 2 other female students and we did the best we could. When doubts or concerns began to creep into my mind I gently pushed them away with my breath and focused on the current position.

Throughout the class I felt my muscles relax so I could push further into the stretch. When the teacher ended the class, the only male in the room, I was surprised that 1.5 hours had passed. It felt really good to sweat and my back felt much better. The teacher praised all of us and even added that for my first time I did very well. It was nice to hear as I thought I looked like a stork on a pillow as much as I moved around.

After the class I spoke with another student who said she has attended 3 times and has already reaped the benefits as a pain in her shoulder has decreased without drugs or shots, which she was given by her doctor in the past, and she was able to sleep more peacefully.

Is hot yoga for me? I do not know. However, I did push myself and signed up for an unlimited month of classes as I know making a decision after only one session is wrong. For change to really happen it takes a few more times. So, I plan to go at least once a week, wearing as little as possible, and sweating profusely as I attempt new postures. My purpose is to try a new healing technique so I have more information as to what works and share the ideas with my clients.
