Fourth of July, Independence day is a celebration now in the US known for its parades, family and friends time, and fireworks. This day represents the signing and passage of the Declaration of Independence which guarantees our rights which have held up since they were written in 1777. As one of the authors, Thomas Jefferson stated “let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them.”
As our country continues to challenge and support the rights our citizens and visitors have in the United States, we as individuals can proudly stand up for our freedom and those who have fought on our behalf abroad and within our borders.
Regardless of our party affiliation at the end of the day we are each human beings, with the same color blood and beating hearts. I am proud to be an American, even though I do not always agree with our government. I cherish the fact that I can disagree with those in power and collectively join with those who march peacefully for change.
This Fourth of July let’s remember our history, embrace our present situation, and look toward the future as we each take a deep breath and be thankful for what we have at this moment.
