Staying calm when overwhelmed.

Last week I shared with you all the activities that I put forth in October (launching Reiki Refresher, opening the monthly Natural Wellness Clinic, and fundraising for my trip to Cuba). I really underestimated the time and effort it would take to launch each event and activity.
Has that ever happened to you?
However, I know I couldn’t have done any of them without the support of people I had collaborated with.
First, I want to thank Libby for saying yes to the Reiki Refresher course. We’ve now been in the program for 4 days and having so much fun. It’s a small intimate group and we’re all learning from one another. Now, we’re planning for a retreat in Nicaragua next year.
The Natural Wellness Clinic launched successfully due to the effort of numerous practitioners, vendors, and of course the Gables Optimal Health staff. The turnout was small yet the connections made and services received were so beneficial to all. Most of all the people leaving the clinic and meditation commented how great and relaxed they felt. That was music to my ears. I feel so blessed to have been guided to offer that. Next event will be November 19 (flyer below).
I’m especially thankful to my mastermind business group and Worldventures mentors for encouraging to follow my love of traveling and adding a freedom based business to my life.
Of course, there were many times I felt overwhelmed and honestly wanted to give up. Yet whenever I felt the urge to walk away from my computer or project I made a deal with myself. I identified a task I really wanted to complete that day and then identified the time to do it. I would take a break, make meals, go for a walk, call a friend, or whatever just to change subjects. However, I always came back and completed that task.
Talking it out to myself or others out is one way I handle overwhelm because as I say the words that I’ve been thinking I realize the issue is not as troubling or answer my own questions. I also take fun breaks to do what I truly want to enjoy and then come back to my activity. I also recite the Reiki principles and offer myself some self-Reiki.
For those of you in an office setting, I suggest you take a 5 minute break and wander outside or away from your desk. Go talk to someone, distract yourself, and then return to your activity. I would also encourage you to practice self-reiki or the inner ease technique.
What is another way you focus on reducing overwhelm?
Feeling frustrated and overwhelmed is natural, yet having a set of handy self-care tools will assist you in releasing the stress naturally.

My imperfect actions.

For years I’ve struggled with feeling worthy and confident. I remember my childhood spending more time behind books than talking to people because I believed they would laugh at me. There were many times I was made fun of at school and never understood why so I kept to myself because it hurt less.
Yet when I was called upon to speak in front of others, I especially recall how physically sick and nervous I felt. However, as I entered my early 20s I pushed myself through it because I felt a calling to teach and speak in front of groups, yet unsure how that would come about at the time.
My biggest test for public speaking came when I recently arrived to my new Peace Corps community in El Salvador. In their culture when they have a big announcement (which I was) they would often gather together in large groups as a way to be seen. So, true to their custom they had gathered the community (and people from surrounding areas) to meet me. I had no idea what to expect and before I knew it I was surrounded by hundreds of people all staring at me, curious as to who I was and why I was in their country. I somehow gathered my wits together and words streamed out of my mouth. It was quite a high actually and I enjoyed it.
From then on I placed myself in front of groups of all sizes as much as I could. Once I returned to the US for graduate school I continued this practice by enrolling in numerous students groups and managing opportunities to speak publicly.
Although I still become nervous from time to time I push myself through my doubts and fears as I know my message is stronger. Thank goodness because I’ve since been teaching self-care techniques like Reiki and meditation to groups of all sizes which is part of my passion.
Sometimes I stand in front of others with my mind blank and my heart full of trust, as words flow out on their own.
I’ve made so many mistakes and learned so much along my path as an entrepreneur. These experiences encourage me to continue on my path of self-healing and sharing my gifts with you and many others. It is through my challenges that I share with you what I’ve accepted so you stumble less or at least feel supported so you don’t fall as hard.
It all begins with trust and taking imperfect action. This month highlights my numerous ways of imperfect action and intention setting that has manifested itself.
I’ll highlight the main ones below because I’m so proud of myself yet also know never to do this much in a single month again. Ha ha!! Lesson learned, hopefully.
I have to admit that as busy as I appear to be I also have taken more time for myself by doing activities with friends and family as I really celebrate each moment.
I admit I put too much on my plate this month because I didn’t really understand all the work it entailed. However, I don’t regret it because I’m taking action instead of waiting on the idea that it has to be perfect.
The lessons learned and the people I’ve met who’ve helped me along this journey, plus those I’ve shared these experiences with are so worth it.
I want to encourage you that wherever you are in life, if there’s an activity that you want to accomplish but hesitant then do it anyways. Waiting for perfection will have you on the sidelines rather than on the field running around like mad.
I know what it’s like to do things on your own and it’s hard to really move forward unless you have someone cheering you on. So I’d like to offer you a chance to share it with me and together we can create a plan to move forward with at least one goal in your life with a complimentary stress less phone session.
I know I’ve pushed through this because I’ve had people encouraging me along the way. I want to offer the same for you.

Cuba Is Soon To Be My Reality.

Welcome to October, my favorite month of the year. Not only because it’s my birthday month (Oct. 12) but there’s just something about it that I just love.
Last month I shared with you that I was traveling to Mexico for a Journey Dance training. Those plans have changed due to the recent earthquake in Mexico City as many of the local participants have focused, with good reason, to dedicate their time and resources to helping their loved ones who have been affected.
I was honestly deflated because I was so looking forward to traveling during my birthday month which has been a goal I set as a way to bring more fun into my life. Then I was surprised with an amazing opportunity that came into my inbox recently. A previous client had reached out asking for financial support as she was traveling to Cuba for a relief mission.
I quickly responded and stated I couldn’t assist her because I would be traveling with her in this trip (affirming my intention without knowing the details).
What makes this trip so amazing is that I had been speaking to my friend Libby and co-creator of our 21 day online Reiki Refresher course earlier this year about traveling to Cuba in October. Earlier this summer I had been researching how to make this happen but because of the recent changes by Trump which reversed Obama’s lifting of travel restrictions to Cuba I found it too challenging and expensive so I gave up.
Obviously the universe heard my intention and delivered, literally, an amazing opportunity to go later this month to Cuba on a relief mission to assist Cubans who have been hit the hardest by Hurricane Irma. For me this is a dream come true as I’ll be on the ground being of service with a group of Cuban Americans, regular Americans, and Cubans dedicating their time and resources to helping those who are unable to. The organization, CubaOne brings Cuban Americans to the island for mission trips yet this one differs from their other ones.
Long story short, I’m asking you for financial assistance in helping me to realize my dream of returning to Cuba (I went in 2006) so I can volunteer my time to help Cubans however I can. I do believe this trip will bring about opportunities I have yet to understand and I’m so excited about it. Cuba has a special place in my heart because it is where my parents and many other adult relatives are from. It’s a place I feel connected which was confirmed when I was there in 2006.
In return for your financial contribution, whatever you can give, I will then gift you my time with a complimentary remote stress release session or angel card reading.
Whether you assist me or not, I do want to make it a point that intentions are sometimes manifested in ways we could not have imagined. So don’t ever lose hope in what you truly desire for the universe will conspire to make it happen if it’s in your highest good and in the perfect time.
To contribute, which is tax deductible, click here for the link.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your assistance and also on behalf of the Cuban people.

Let’s dance together!

The other day I was inspired to shoot a raw video of myself dancing in my living room. The reason was because Wednesday night I was going to offer a Journey Dance class in a new studio.
As a Journey Dance Facilitator I can share my love of dancing, healing, Reiki, and transformative work with others. Journey Dance is unlike any form of dancing that you’ve ever experienced because it’s about getting in touch with your feelings, your body, and movement so you can heal. It’s powerful and moving each time I share it.
I share this video with you because I want to challenge you in a loving way to incorporate music into your life as part of your self-care. Music has been used since the beginning of time for rituals, healing, and celebrations, as well as, dancing.
I don’t expect you to create a Facebook Live like I have, although you will get extra kudos and love if you post it on Our Wheels of Life public Facebook group.
My only challenge is for you to choose one song that really brings you joy and shake off your stress.
I also wanted to share this video to demonstrate that dancing isn’t about knowing formal steps or really knowing how to dance. It’s about feeling the music within your soul and body so you can really experience healing.
For my first Journey Dance at Luna Bohemia in Pinecrest, I practically had to beg my 2 participants to come as one of them was hesitant about dancing because was fearful about how she would look. However, knowing what I do about Journey Dance I knew it was something she just had to experience. Following the class as we set in a circle talking about the experience she admitted she was glad she came and was excited about attending future events.
So if you’re in Miami I encourage you to come out this Saturday to my Journey Dance class in Doral or in Pinecrest once we finalize the dates.
Regardless of where you are I encourage you to dance today for yourself, for your community, and for our world.
I’d love to hear your experience by replying to this blog.
